Dancing at the Makers Fair

On Sunday November 23rd I get to yet again slip on the Somo technology and dance to Schema Factor’s music. I did a performance with him at Nocturne Nightclub back in August and I am thrilled to be getting to share the stage with him again as well as with the creator of Somo and founder of Sonicwear, Loretta Faveri. Somo is a wearable technology which translates your movement into sound.

From 2:30 to 3:30 we will be presenting the technology at the Toronto Mini Makers Fair. We will be discussing this awesome wearable technology, allowing audience members to try it out and myself and other talented dancers will be demonstrating its artistic potential. Tickets to the entire event are FREE! (who doesn’t love free stuff!?). If you aren’t able to come on Sunday, Sonicwear will be at the fair all day Saturday and Sunday so feel free to stop by and say hi!

Flash Back to Always With Me at Series 8:08

In September I got to show the first section of my solo Always With Me at Series 8:08’s Choreographic Performance Workshop. I was lucky enough to also have the wonderful photographer Omer Yukseker in the audience to capture the movement. Below are a few of my favourite photos from the day.

So Many Dancers In One Place!

I’m so excited to be performing in 60X60 Toronto again this year! 60 composers have created 60 one minute pieces of music. 60 choreographers have created one minute dances. All of this music and dance is being smushed together into an action packed one hour show. I’m lucky enough to be dancing in not just one but two minutes of this crazy show. The first, a solo of my own work and the second as part of Random Acts of Dance’s creation. If you’re looking for something crazy, fun and different to do tomorrow night (Thursday Oct 15)  grab a ticket and join us at the Harbourfront Centre for a great night!

Get a Sneak Peak of My New Solo!

Its been a busy summer of creating and after three months in studio my solo work Always With Me is starting to take shape. The desk and I are going to be doing two work-in-progress events this month and we’d love for you to come let us know what you think!

The first is is on Saturday September 20th at NewFound Dance’s Movement Market! It is a fundraiser in support of the organization Lights, Camera Access! and sponsored by Steamwhistle so it is bound to be a great party. Along with myself, there will be performances by Robyn Breen (NFD’s artistic director) Marie Lambin-Gagnon, Christy Stoeten, and Christianne Ullmark.

The desk and my’s second outing will be on Sunday September 28 at Series 8:08’s Choreographic Performance Workshop in collaboration with Dance Ontario for Culture Days. The cool things about this performance is that #1 it is free! and #2 you get to anonymously give all the performers feedback on our work. So if you want to tell me how awesome (or awful…) you think I am, this is the perfect place to do it!

Showing a new work for the first time is always scary and exciting so I would love to see some familiar faces in the audience. Check out my Upcoming Projects page for more details about these two great events!

Photos of Cyborg Candice

On Friday August 29 I performed as part of Schema Factor’s set at Nocturne Nightclub for Mutation Fridays. Along with the cool fact of getting to go by the cyborg name of “Cybernetic Artificial Neo-Dancer for Interpretation and Creative Expression” and dressing up in a cool outfit I also got to wear a really neat piece of technology called SonicWear. SonicWear allows the wearer to control the music through movement! Don’t ask me to explain it anymore than that. You can check out their website for more in-depth info.

It was a pretty fun night and I’m thrilled to share a few of my favourite photos that were taken. All photos below were taken by Jill Grant.
