Of all the holidays it seems like Valentine’s Day gets the most flack. The most common arguments I hear about why Valentine’s Day sucks are the following:
It is a holiday created for the sole purpose of financial gain.
You should be telling the people you love them every day, not only on Valentine’s Day.
It is a holiday which makes you feel bad if you don’t have someone special to share it with.
All arguments that I can see the truth in, yet I still love the holiday. I only have one Valentine’s Day I remember spending with someone special. I have been single for all the rest. And from what I remember the Valentine’s Day where I actually had a boyfriend was probably my least favourite of them all. It wasn’t because we didn’t have a great day, or that he wasn’t a wonderful guy, to be honest I don’t really know why I didn’t have a great day that year. I think it had something to do with that the day held so much more pressure to be awesome when I actually had someone to spend it with. No one expects you to have a good time on February 14th if you aren’t attached.
Maybe you’ve seen this picture already, but if you haven’t take some time to read it over and contemplate the true meaning of love. I’ve spoken before about women’s rights and respectful men, and below is a fantastic example of exactly that. Ride for a Dream is a Canadian organization dedicated to ending violence against women. In partnership with the White Ribbon Campaign (another great organization of men dedicated to ending violence against women), Ride for a Dream raises money through organizing bike rides across Canada. I actually know some young men who did one of these trips last summer, truly inspirational.
The picture I am sharing with you was originally posted on Ride for a Dream’s blog and is now trending on many social network sites. I think is one of the best things that could go viral, especially in honour of Valentine’s Day.
