About Me

candice-mpphotography-hires-8722I am an emerging artist originally from Victoria, B.C. and currently based on Manitoulin Island, ON. I hold a BFA honours dance from York University with a focus in dance science and performance. Presently I work in the fields of dance, film and performance art. In 2012 I was one of the twelve participants chosen to be a part of the SummerWorks Leadership Intensive Program and in 2014 I was selected to be a part of Expect Theatre’s Beats and Intentions Training Program. I am the founder and director of both Body Stories and Your Dance Fest. I am also a founding member us and an artistic director of Hub14.

My creative projects include stage, video and installation work. My work has been presented on Norwegian Cruiselines, at The Toronto Fringe Festival, The SummerWorks Performance Festival, 60×60 Dance Toronto, the King Street Alternative Video Festival and by Theatre Passe Murraille. I have collaborated with artists with backgrounds in theatre, dance, music and performance art. Some highlights have included the creation of the community arts installation Welcome to the Neighbourhood with Sochi Fried, Cathy Gordon, and Sean Robertson-Palmer and the creation of the dance film Deluge with Aria Evans.

As a performer I have had the privilege of working with artist including Peggy Baker, Susie Burpee, Expect Theatre, Sky Fairchild-Waller, Karissa Fyrrar, Kaeja d’Dance, Keiko Kitano, random acts of dance performance and Lynda Reino.

As well as being an active performer and creator, I am also a dedicated educator and arts administrator. I am a certified EXPRESS DANCE teacher and level 2 C-I Training Instructor. I have worked as an educator for Canadian Children’s Dance Theatre, Travelling Stage, the Toronto District School Board, the Harbourfront Centre, Kaeja d’Dance and the Toronto French Montessori School. My administrative experience includes contracts with Hub 14, Ontario School of Ballet, Canadian Dance Assembly, Kaeja d’Dance, Lesley Barber Music, and Healthy Dancer Canada.
